Pichón: Race and Revolution in Castro’s Cuba

Author Carlos Moore will host an event in Atlanta this Sunday to celebrate the release of his new memoir "Pichón: Race and Revolution in Castro’s Cuba" (Lawrence Hill Books, an imprint of Chicago Review Press, November 2008).
Moore will give a joint presentation about race in Cuba with Afro-Cuban painter Tomás Esson. The event is free and open to the public, and takes place on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Hammonds House Gallery (503 Peeples Street, SW, Atlanta, GA 30310).
"Pichón" is a compelling autobiography that reveals Moore’s lifelong resistance to the official denial of the racial realities he perceived in Cuba. It’s particularly timely considering that President-elect Obama’s intended initiatives to loosen travel restrictions and consider direct talks with Cuba would be a significant change to U.S. foreign policy.

I met yesterday Dr. Moore and was impressed by his extraordinary personality. His live and experiences in and out of Cuba are unique. A man like Moore is a gift for humanity and a joy for his friends. I'm happy he is a Cuban and a citizen of the world.
